Allergies 'can affect pet dogs, cats'

With the weather becoming warmer and pollen counts rising, owners of pet dogs and cats have been warned that seasonal allergies can also affect animals.
According to Brett Story, a pet charity volunteer, his dogs Lucy and Charlie have to have shots once a month due to their condition, but the medications help prevent minor attacks, scratching and runny noses.
Writing for the Leaf Chronicle, Mr Story believes that making sure pet dogs and cats are treated is important, especially in the summer months.
"If your pet suffers from allergies, it is well worth the expense of the blood test to ease their suffering. There is nothing worse than having an itch that you can't scratch or make stop itching," he added.
The Chicago Sun-Times recently warned pet owners that if their animal gives off a bad smell even after bathing, they may have an allergy and should be taken to the vet to be diagnosed.
Animal Friends are a specialist pet insurance company providing dog insurance and cat insurance to British pet owners since 1999 and we now offer horse insurance too.
