Pet health care tips for the cold

Pet insurance customers concerned about the best way to keep their furry friends snuggly and warm this winter may like to take heed of pet health care advice from one publication.
The Bend Bulletin carries advice from the Humane Society of Central Oregon, which advises owners to take care to keep their creature companions toasty as temperatures prepare to plunge and winter draws in.
Among the recommendations offered is the suggestion of purchasing special cold-weather booties to place on a pet dog's paws, which should prevent them from getting uncomfortably or even painfully cold. This might even be a consideration for those concerned about taking their canine companions out this winter for other health reasons, such as age and weight.
"Watching pets around heating stoves and making sure their water bowls don't freeze are also good precautions to take during cold weather," the news source continued.
In addition, owners are advised to bring their pets in out of cold weather to avoid painful irritation to their noises, mouths and other mucous membranes.
