Help Your Dog Have Healthy Feet

animal friends dog insuranceYour dog's feet have no protection and you should take special care to ensure that their pads do not become over calloused or tender. One way you can do this is by making sure your dog is not over exercised.

When you are grooming your pet you should pay special attention to their feet. Your dog's toenails should be clipped regularly. If your dog has overgrown nails they can curl into the foot pads. They can also split and cause a dogs feet to spread and make it uncomfortable for a dog to stand or walk.

You should regularly inspect your dog's feet and run you fingers between the pads to check for stuck materials, such as rocks, gum, mud and stickers or thorns. You should also trim the hair around the pads to reduce matting. If you dog has something stuck between their pads if can irate the sensitive skin and cause abrasions and difficulty in walking.

If you make sure that you include feet care in your dog's grooming routine you will be able to see if there is any signs of debris or if the pads of your dog's feet are damaged in anyway. If the pads are cracked or damaged you should consult your vet to see what types of treatments are available to ensure your pet has a healthy and active life.

And remember, pet insurance is like having health insurance on yourself, it is there when you need it for those unexpected large health-related bills. By having this kind of insurance you can ensure that your dog will get the best treatment if they are ever injured or seriously ill.

Animal Friends Pet Insurance is a not for profit organisation which gives all of its net profits from their Pet Insurance and Life Insurance policies to charities all over the world who help animals in need. So this means if you were to buy pet insurance from them you would not only be providing for your pet, you would also be helping animals all over the world.
