Pet care 'preferred to romance'

Pet lovers everywhere who would rather spend the day with their animals than their partner are not alone.
In a survey of 24,000 adults from 23 countries, 21 per cent of adults would prefer to spend the day with their pet over their other half.
The study, commissioned by Thomson Reuters and undertaken by Ipsos, showed that 25 per cent of those under 35 years old would rather spend the day with their pet than their spouse, while only 14 per cent of those over 55 prefer pet to partner.
Turkey came out on top, with 49 per cent of all Turkish adults in favour of a day with the dog over a day with their significant other. The French, it would seem, are the least animal loving. Just ten per cent want a day with their pet instead of their spouse.
With the RSPCA calling for people to adopt a pet this Valentine's Day, perhaps getting your spouse a rescue dog and leaving them to it for the day is the original gift you have been looking for.
Animal Friends Insurance, one of the largest independent pet insurers in the UK offer dog insurance, cat insurance and horse insurance to UK residents.
