Experts says dog licks pose no real risk to humans

While many people are affectionate toward their pet dogs, showering them with kisses and cuddles, just as many might be disgusted to see a pooch licking their owner's lips in return.
However, pet health care expert Dr Pete Wedderburn, writing for the Telegraph, has claimed that this poses no significant risk to humans.
Canines use their tongues to express emotion and as a social gesture, which stems back to their interaction with their maternal figure, which bathed them and allowed them to lick food from her lips.
"You'll often see younger or more timid dogs meekly reaching out to lick the lips of more socially confident dogs," Dr Wedderburn explained, noting that bacterial studies have proven that there is little risk of contracting infections from such an act.
However, it is likely not the most hygienic of practices, so it may be wise to try to avoid this contact, as well as evading the overtures of any strange pooches, as allowing one so close to the face shows vulnerability.
