The McGregor pet dog could be the next sidekick for actor Ewan's forthcoming adventure.

He is planning to get on his motorbike once again and ride across South America - but this time, he might take canine companion Sid.

"I've trained him to ride in my side car and I thought we could do a trip together," McGregor explained.

He has even bought Sid some 'doggles' - dog goggles.

The actor, known for roles in hit films such as Trainspotting, the Star Wars prequels and Brassed Off, has previously embarked on two globetrotting journeys, both of which were filmed for TV.

Long Way Down was a 15,000-mile round trip from John O'Groats to Cape Town, while Long Way Round clocked up 20,000 miles in 115 days riding from London to New York.

Both motorbike adventures were taken with McGregor's friend Charley Boorman, who later set off on his own travels for a BBC series called By Any Means.
