EastEnders dog plot provokes complaints

A current storyline in EastEnders has sparked complaints because it involves the disappearance of a pet dog.
Walford's local preacher Lucas Johnson was seen taking pooch Sugar for a walk near the canal but returning home without her, telling the rest of his family she ran away.
However, viewers know she was previously caught sniffing around a tree under which Johnson buried Owen Turner, a man he murdered.
According to Digital Spy, Johnson "decided to deal with Sugar in his own way" to prevent her from exposing his crime.
The BBC has received over 100 complaints from people unhappy with the insinuation that the dog was killed, even though it is not explicit.
The channel responded: "Lucas has already killed two people in order to protect his reputation ... the story does indeed suggest that Lucas has killed [Sugar]. This behaviour is completely in keeping with his character."
It added that the soap does not condone killing dogs or people.
