Twilight star: My pet dog is my best friend

Kellan Lutz, who shot to fame in the globally successful Twilight series of films, has talked about his adoration for his pet dog.

The actor is the latest spokesperson for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) and recently posed for photos with the first dog he adopted, Kola.

PeoplePets.com said Lutz, who also owns another rescue pup called Kevin, is helping the organisation with its Adopt, Don't Buy campaign.

And he described the first day he met her at a shelter.

"I touched her toe and said, 'hey, what's your name?'."

Although Lutz was warned that Kola was "a puller", he took her for a walk and fell in love.

"She's my best friend," he added.

Peta often uses celebrities in its awareness campaigns and also campaign for other animal welfare issues, such as fur usage and meat-eating.

Other famous faces that have helped it convey messages include Khloe Kardashian and Pamela Anderson.
