A pet dog has been seized by a buzzard in Scotland during a routine daily walk with his owner.
According to the Ayrshire Post, the Jack Russell puppy was frolicking on a golf course when the bird of prey swooped down, grabbed him and carried him off.
The puppy's vet Lorna Lazenby told the newspaper that his owner was alerted to the attack by the barks by his older dog.
"The man saw his pup in the clutches of the buzzard. He looked everywhere for [him] and also went back later," she explained.
"But he found only some fur from the wee pup."
Ms Lazenby emphasised that dog owners need to be aware of the risks of such an event.
Even seagulls could swoop upon small dogs.
She added that death would have been instantaneous as the buzzard would have broken the pooch's neck.
Meanwhile, the RSPCA has launched an investigation into the mysterious deaths of 75 starlings that appear to have fallen dead from the sky.
