Dogs beating cats in household ownership

According to research undertaken by the Pet Food Manufacturers' Association (PFMA), dogs are now beating cats in terms of ownership in the UK.

It was found that nearly a quarter of UK households had a dog, at 22.9%, which shows a rise of 2.1% over the last 5 years. This is compared to the number of households with cats, barely a whisker behind at 22.7% ownership.

These figures are somewhat offset by the associated number of cats per household, which leave the national total of dogs in the home at 8.3million, with cats still ahead with 8.6million across the country.

Could the rising number of dogs in our homes suggest that favour is shifting back to our canine pals?
