Labradoodle Hybrid Dog Breed Blog about Pet Animals

Labradoodle
A Labradoodle is one of the latest of what people are calling designer dogs or hybrid dogs. A Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. The way this breed came about has less to do with fashion, however, and more to do with the popularity of Labs and Golden Retrievers being used as service dogs.
The Labradoodle came about as a solution to help disabled people who were also allergic to dogs. An organisation in Australia called Guide Dogs Victoria was asked in the 1970's for a special type of dog. They came up with the breed specifically because it was low allergenic. After this the Labradoodle dogs also became popular for other dog owners who were allergic to hair and dander.
They became highly popular as pets not just for being low allergenic but also for their particularly easy going temperaments. They are good in family situations and are playful, gentle and good with children. They combine characteristics of the intelligent Poodle with the even temperament of a Labrador to create a dog that is well liked for its gentle nature and playful disposition.
Studies have shown that hybrid dogs have less health related problems than the well established older recognised breed lines. This is great news for dog insurance customers, as in the long term this would represent a lower risk of illness, therefore eventually lowering pet insurance premiums for this type of breed.
The Labradoodle comes in three sizes which are miniature, medium and standard. They have two types of low shedding coats. The Fleece coat looks and feels like fleece and is unique to the Labradoodle breed. The Wool Curly coat is more like the coat of a Poodle in texture and appearance. They come in many colours including apricot, black, chocolate, and silver. The cost for these dogs can range between five and fifteen hundred pounds.
A Labradoodle makes a great dog for a family that has members who are allergic to pet dander. They are the combination of two of the most intelligent and easy going dog breeds. They would make wonderful companions that will be loyal and loving for a lifetime.
