Pet health care needed for cat with head stuck in tin can

Ethical insurance customers may already be aware of the peace of mind some pet health care services can bring - and one recent case may further illustrate this.

According to animal welfare charity the Scottish SPCA, a female black cat walked into the organisation's Wildlife Rescue Centre (WRC) on the morning of February 14th with her head wedged inside a pet food tin can.

After it was removed, the feline was given a health check before being moved to the Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Balerno, Edinburgh.

Manager of the WRC Colin Seddon thinks she is either a stray or was dumped at the facility by someone who thought it was a shelter.

But the cat is in lovely condition with a friendly temperament. She was found wearing a green collar with bright green cats' eyes printed on it.

"Litter can pose a threat to both wild and domestic animals and we always encourage people to make sure they bag and bin their rubbish, it could save an animal's life," Mr Seddon added.

The Scottish SPCA does not receive any funding from the government or lottery grants.
