Kitten saved by children

A kitten has been rescued by a group of women and children out on an autumn hike.

According to the Straus Advertiser-News, the band were strolling around as part of the Junior Woman's Club of Sparta's new effort to participate in more after-school activities.

Walking in the Sparta Glen area, the group eventually came upon a tiny kitten hiding under a picnic table.

Knowing that there is a high incidence of coyotes - a form of wild dog that preys on smaller animals - in the region, the women and youngsters attempted to coax the frightened creature out, but to no avail.

However, one of the females - Judy Ring - decided to call a contact she has in pet health care in the form of Cassie Kowolchuk, who works with One Step Closer Animal Rescue.

The moggy was quickly saved and has since been rehomed with a loving new family.
