How a cat "saved a family"

A pet cat brought life back to a family after tragedy, reveals a new book.

The kitten, Cleo, was to be young Sam's birthday present from his mother but the child was tragically killed just weeks later, before the pet had been delivered.

According to the Daily Mail - which recently produced a feature about the book - unsure whether they were ready for things like buying cat insurance and providing pet health care after such an event, the family were reluctant to take Cleo once she was ready to leave her own mother.

However, in her book Cleo: How A Small Black Cat Helped Heal A Family, Helen Brown tells how Sam's brother Rob was still eager to have the pet.

Ms Brown says Cleo was responsible for binding the family together for years and providing a link between Sam and his future siblings he was never to meet.

She writes: "Cleo presided over our family through nearly 24 years. She helped heal wounds I thought we'd never recover from."

The book was released on February 18th 2010, in hardback.
