Cat insurance holders given plant protection tips

Cat insurance holders may want to invest in a sonic device, a water pistol or even a plastic snake to keep their pet cat from their plants, according to the Telegraph's Helen Yemm.
Cats chewing the bark off the lower stems of plants or digging to mark their ownership of their owner's horticultural feats are all common problems, but how do you stop them?
Ms Yemm believes that chicken wire screens, spiky matting and the Coleus Canina, or Pee-off Plant or Scaredy-Cat as it is known, can chase cats away from plants.
But for the more alternative remedy Ms Yemm suggests: "Cats have a fear of snakes - and one of those ghastly rubber children's toy snakes placed at the base of the plant might deter them."
Some plants, including Philodendron, Caladium, Ivy, Narcissus, Sago Palm and Peace Lily, are poisonous to cats and should thus be kept well away from your feline friends.
