Ashera Cat - Designer Pets on the Rise

The Ashera cat is the latest designer breed of cat to be developed and is becoming popular as an exotic pet . They are apparantly a crossbreed between a domesticated cat and both the Asian Leopard Cat and the African Serval. They look like any other kitten when they are little, but when they are fully grown they are about four feet long. Of course, with any type of exotic animal there is a hefty price tag attached. This adorable little kitten will cost you somewhere in the region of fifteen thousand pounds!

These cats weigh around 30 pounds when fully grown, are highly intelligent and can even be walked on a lead. There is major controversy about the Ashera not being a new breed of cat at all; it has been claimed it is just a Savannah cat with a different name and a (much!) higher price tag. Critics of the company offering this latest "breed" for sale cite the Savannah cat, introduced in 2000 which has much the same bloodlines as the Ashera but costs a lot less, at about two or three thousand pounds.

The Ashera has distinctive stripes and spots on its coat and has pointed ears. They also have a long life span of up to 25 years. They are supposededly low maintenance and have a good temperament. The Ashera cat's diet is standard moist cat food - which could swiftly lead to a hefty cat food bill to satiate this dog-sized cat.

There is debate about whether this exotic cat breed with its wild animal instincts can be happy living in a home. People are even wondering if they can be domesticated at all. Some people may even fear these cats because there isn't enough information yet about the characteristics or traits of these genetically engineered cats.

The Ashera, while undoubtably beautiful, is still a genetically engineered cat which has been created specifically for profit. For this reason ethical pet insurance customers may wish rather to pay a visit to their local animal rescue centre or local branch of Cat's Protection . There are literally thousands of abandoned or abused cats up and down the country that are desperately in need of a loving home.
