RSPCA looks for info after kittens dumped

Two black and white kittens required pet health care after they were found abandoned in two separate incidents in Swindon.

On January 8th, Swindon RSPCA was informed of the discovery of a 12 week old kitten in a shoebox in an alleyway in the Westlea area. The kitten was suffering from diarrhoea and was very thin.

Three days later a second kitten was found by a member of the public in a box abandoned on Swindon's Wichelstowe estate. The kitten was taken to Drove veterinary hospital.

The incidents follow a spate of animal abandonments across the country, including one where a Jack Russell puppy was found in a bin bag in a canal in Staffordshire.

RSPCA inspector Steph Daly, who is investigating the kitten cases, said: "These kinds of abandonments are quite common, either after Christmas or due to owners failing to neuter their animals, which results in unwanted young."

The Animal Welfare Act 2006 states that anyone found guilty of causing deliberate suffering to an animal can face up to a six month prison sentence and a fine up to £20,000.
