Rain Rescue - June Charity of the Month

Monday, 1 August 2011 10:28

In June 2011 we here at Animal Friends started a ‘charity of the month’ competition. Four excellent charities are picked by us and then posted up on our ‘Feel Good Park’ page on Facebook where the public can vote for the charity they feel deserves the accolade. The charity that receives the most votes wins a £5,000 donation whilst second place wins £2,000 and third and fourth place each receive £1,500. Since June we have donated £20,000 between eight charities helping to promote our feel good ethos and keep us on track with our goal of donating a million pound to animal welfare charities by the end of 2012.

We are delighted to announce that Rain Rescue were the winners for the month of June. Based in Sheffield, the charity was established in 2002 by Jacquie Neilson. Whilst visiting a local council dog pound Jacquie experienced first-hand the terrible conditions that lost and stray dogs were left in and more often than not, had to be put to sleep from. Rain Rescue helps some of these dogs and cats by taking them from pounds or off the street, nurturing them back to good health and then finding loving homes for them. From January to July 2011 this magnificent charity has already saved the lives of 120 dogs and 58 cats.

Jacquie from Rain Rescue was very glad to have won the competition and left this comment on our ‘Feel Good Park’ Facebook page upon hearing the news:

“Thank you Animal Friends - you are a great insurance company and we can't thank you enough for all the support and donations that you give to small rescue groups like us at RAIN RESCUE. For winning this competition, it’s amazing to us and will mean so much to our small rescue group. Thank you for helping the small ones who survive on so little money, but like us - help the animals - not just bank the money. THANK YOU”

The other charities that were up for the vote were Cats Protection (Croydon) who came second receiving a donation of £2,000; whilst Safe Haven came third and Secret World came fourth each receiving a donation of £1,500.

We will announce the winners of our July competition in the next few days and are currently considering which four charities to put up for the vote for August. To stay up to date with all of our charity work and news head to our Facebook page and ‘like’ us. For every ‘like’ we receive we will donate £1 to an animal welfare charity.
