Rabbits found abandoned in box

A mother rabbit and her 12 baby bunnies have been found abandoned in a cardboard box in Cornwall, pet health care organisation the RSPCA has reported.

The English lop-eared rabbits were discovered on a driveway by a member of public - although three of the babies had already been crushed inside the crowded box.

Lola - the mother rabbit, whose name was written on the side of the container - was found to be in good health bar a minor eye infection.

All the animals were hungry and in need of a good grooming.

RSPCA inspector Mike Reid said the pet health care organisation was eager to find the rabbits' owner to ensure that he or she was not neglecting any other pets.

"There is never any excuse for abandoning an animal. If you have any unwanted pets then help and advice is available from a number of organisations," he stressed.

A kitten was recently discovered dumped in a suitcase in Nottingham, in an incident which RSPCA inspector Teresa Potter called a "callous act".
