Puppy mills 'face ban as US pet shop suppliers'

The City of West Hollywood has drafted an ordinance that will see puppy mills removed from local pet shops' list of suppliers in favour of rescue and shelter dogs and cats.
Companion Animal Protections Society (CAPS) assisted the Animal Legal Defense Fund and the City of West Hollywood in providing evidence to justify the measure and helped draft the legislation.
The measure followed an uncover investigation by CAPS, which looked into the sourcing of Elite Animals, which counts governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Osbournes among their clients and lies about getting their pets from local breeders.
CAPS obtained graphic footage of abuse at Elite Animals suppliers and exposed how the dogs were suffering medical problems and "severe psychological distress".
According to USA Today, a similar movement is afoot to force pet stores in the state of Indian to provide prospective buyers with information about the animals' backgrounds and medical condition.
