German Shepherd Dog Rescue (Scotland) – August Charity of the Month

Tuesday, 6 September 2011 15:53

In June 2011 we here at Animal Friends started a ‘charity of the month’ competition. Four excellent charities are picked by us and then posted up on our Feel Good Park page on Facebook where the public can vote for the charity they feel deserves the accolade. The charity that receives the most votes wins a £5,000 donation whilst second place wins £2,000 and third and fourth place each receives £1,500. Since June we have donated £30,000 between twelve charities helping to promote our feel good ethos and keep us on track with our goal of donating a million pound to animal welfare charities by the end of 2012.

We are very happy to reveal that the German Shepherd Dog Rescue (Scotland) are the winners for the month of August. They won with a brilliant 515 votes and were extremely active in the participation of the competition, fully embracing the purpose of Feel Good Park whilst helping to spread the message of our ‘Feel Good’ ethos and all we do here at Animal Friends.

German Shepherd Dog Rescue (Scotland) is a small non-profit organisation that re-homes German Shepherds. It provides dogs with a safe and loving place to live until they are nursed back to full health and a new home has been found for them. The charity’s aim is to ensure that all its rescue dogs are safe, secure, happy and well-loved in the new homes they are placed in. The volunteers at the charity carry out follow-up checks to make sure that the newly-homed dog and its owner(s) are happy and settled.

The German Shepherd Dog Rescue (Scotland) relies solely on donations to cover the costs of kennelling, veterinary fees and transportation. We hope that our donation of £5,000 will help to cover some of the costs incurred by the great work that these wonderful people continue to do.

The other charities that were up for the vote were ‘Wild Futures’ who came second receiving a donation of £2,000; whilst ‘Animals Asia’ came third and ‘Birch Hill Dog Rescue’ came fourth each receiving a donation of £1,500.

The staff at the German Shepherd Dog Rescue (Scotland) are thrilled to have received the donation and had this statement of thanks:

“We are delighted to be the winners of the Animal Friends competition. Thank you to Animal Friends for giving us the chance to take part. This is a fantastic boost to our funds.”

Gillian Cowe who works for German Shepherd Dog Rescue and was actively involved with their campaign on Feel Good Park had this to say:

“Thank you Animal Friends for running a great competition where everyone taking part was a winner.”

The four charities up for the vote this month (September) are ‘Dogs Trust (Salisbury)', ‘Romney House Cat Rescue’, ‘Elephant Family’ and ‘Brinsley Animal Rescue’. Have a read on their websites about all they do and then head to our Feel Good Park page to vote for the charity you feel deserves to win. Two of the charities are very small and so every single vote is important.
