Dogs Trust Salisbury – September Charity of the Month
Tuesday, 11 October 2011 16:26
In June 2011 we here at Animal Friends started a ‘charity of the month’ competition. Four excellent charities are picked by us and then posted up on our ‘Feel Good Park’ page on Facebook where the public can vote for the charity they feel deserves the accolade. The charity that receives the most votes wins a £5,000 donation whilst second place wins £2,000 and third and fourth place each receives £1,500. Since June we have donated £30,000 between twelve charities helping to promote our feel good ethos and keep us on track with our goal of donating a million pound to animal welfare charities by the end of 2012.
We are delighted to announce that the Salisbury Branch of the Dogs Trust were the winners of the month of September. We here at Animal Friends have held a close working relationship with the volunteers over at the rehoming centre and have had a few visits from some of their dogs at our headquarters. Leslie Gold, the Supporter Relations Officer for the centre, was kind enough to show us around and we got to meet all of the lovely dogs that are in need of a home. The centre is excellently run and the staff are a huge credit to the dogs trust.

Each year the Dogs Trust care for around 16,000 dogs nationwide; they run various informative projects and have education officers who give thousands of classroom presentations every year. The Salisbury branch of the Dogs Trust is just 1 of 17 Rehoming Centres across the U.K. The lovely people who work there continue to help animals by giving abused or unwanted dogs a safe place to stay. They also run various events throughout the year to try and raise funds for the rehoming centre whilst educating and informing people about the plight of dogs around the country. Animal Friends have sponsored such events as the Guinness World Record attempt for longest simultaneous dog stay and are happy to be closely linked to such a wonderful charity that shares the same animal welfare ethos as ourselves.
The charity is thrilled to have received the donation and Leslie had this message of thanks for Animal Friends:
“An enormous thank you to all our lovely supporters who voted for Dogs Trust Salisbury and who shared the link with their friends, and also to Feel Good Park by Animal Friends for their generosity in running the contest! The £5,000 won will go so very far in helping us to look after the 70 lost and abandoned dogs we have in our care at Salisbury at any one time, ensuring their needs are met and a loving, responsible home is found for each of them. Well done too to the other worthy charities in the contest.”
The four charities up for the vote this month (October) are ‘K9focus’, ‘David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’, ‘Freshfields Animal Rescue’ and ‘Shropshire Cat Rescue’. Have a read on their websites about all they do and then head to our Feel Good Park page to vote for the charity you feel deserves to win. Three of the charities are very small and so every single vote is important.
Again, a big congratulations to Dogs Trust Salisbury and a big thank you to everyone that took the time to go and vote, it really does make a difference. #CotM
