Animal Friends donates to Safe Haven Donkey Sanctuary

Animal Friends Insurance has today donated £2,000 To Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land.

Safe Haven was founded 11 years ago in Israel and Palestine by English woman Lucy Fensom, after she witnessed the suffering being endured by donkeys in the Middle East. Her aim was to provide a home for sick, abandoned and rescued donkeys.

With temperatures reaching 35°c every day in summer months the overworked and often poorly treated working animals will have somewhere for a cool drink and to get treatment for their injuries or illness’.

This donation is to help Safe Haven equip and refurbish a permanent treatment clinic in the Palestinian town of Qalqilya, which is central to the areas where the animals mainly work.

Animal Friends has long been a supporter of Safe Haven having previously donated £7,000! We are also donating £1000 a month to assist with the running costs of the clinic.

Lucy’s work has only been possible with the generous support of the British public, charity supporters and organisations such as Animal Friends.

Safe Haven are overwhelmed by this donation and have sent this message as a thank you to everyone at Animal Friends:

All of us who work and support Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land wish to thank Animal Friends for their latest generous award to help Lucy Fensom and her team continue the wonderful work they do at the outreach clinics and at Safe Haven’s new permanent Donkey Treatment Station in Palestine.

Lucy Fensom wrote earlier this year, just before the permanent Treatment Station opened:

“Our charity provides the free veterinary care for these poor, broken down animals that their owners would otherwise have no way of affording. By helping these working animals we are helping the people.  We have worked hard to build relationships with many of these poverty-stricken people and managed to reach out to their hearts.  As a result they value our help tremendously and I find their appreciation so rewarding. One remarkable thing to see at our outreach clinic days is our small team of stall of all faiths, Muslim, Christian and Jewish – working together with the owners solely to help the animals.”
