Animal Friends donate to Tia Greyhound & Lurcher Rescue Centre

On the 7th July Animal Friends donated £2,000 to the Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue Centre.
The disappearance of greyhounds from racing is an ever increasing one with an average of 4,728 dogs going missing each year. This raises serious concerns when considering the welfare of these great animals.
Tia’s Moorside farm located in Hebden Bridge was founded in 1997 and provides shelter and safe comfort for up to 100 greyhounds at a time making it the largest rescue /home-finding sanctuary in Yorkshire. Half of the dogs are brought in by their owners or trainers and the other half are strays.
The kennels that the dogs stay in are situated in a remote cold part of the Pennines where the winters can be very harsh, uncompromising and unpredictable.
The donation made by Animal Friends is to help the Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue Centre with the cost of installing and replacing a new heating system in the kennels helping to ensure that the dogs will be comfortable, warm and content.
This rescue centre receives no money from the greyhound racing industry and so the work done by this great cause is only made possible by the generous and continued support of the general public, charity supporters and other organisations such as Animal Friends.
Jean Burchell from the Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue Centre had this message of thanks for all at Animal Friends:
“We simply could not have faced another winter with the existing heating system, together with other monies already secured towards the project, this means that we can now go ahead and get the heaters installed before the onset of Winter 2011/12. What a difference this will make to all the dogs which will be in Tia's care throughout this coming winter and beyond, Thank You.”
