All About Ragdoll Cats
The Ragdoll cat is a very friendly and loving breed with a distinct look and warm personality. Said to have begun being bred around 1960, the cat quickly became well known for its easy-going temperament and docile nature. It originated in America, but when a breeding pair were shipped to the UK the large size, gentility and a habit of going limp when picked up made them a quick favourite with cat fanciers.
Ragdoll colouration has three distinct patterns; pointed, mitted and bicolour. Pointed refers to one colour darkening at the extremities, while mitted is the same as pointed but with white paws, abdomen and white face, with a belly stripe and white chin. Colours can be Seal, Chocolate and Flame, with dilutes known as blue, lilac and cream.
The ragdoll is physically muscular and larger than most other domesticated breeds; with the semi-long hair the breed is famous for making the cat appear much bigger. When mixed with their docile temperament, the Ragdoll is often compared to a small dog in terms of how it behaves.
The Ragdoll is a very intelligent and loving breed, but more suited to indoor life with another cat or companion if the owner is out for long periods of time. Animal Friends suggests the breed to anyone who wants a loving companion or can provide a friendly cat companion to ensure your Ragdoll stays happy and healthy.
